Baise Vows to Stop Dulles Rail In Its Tracks - Virginia Politics -

from washingtonpost.com

Republican Gary H. Baise says that if elected Chairman of the Fairfax Board of Supervisors he would halt the planned Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport unless the elevated segment through Tysons Corner was built below ground.

This is quite interesting. This could sway a lot of votes his way because of the majority preference for the underground tunnel. This could put the possibility of the project even happening at all.

I would love to see the rail underground. I am more a liberal / independent, but I would vote for a chairman that puts the rail underground. I think it is a much better idea and it will not take space away from the above ground areas and the costs of building either one are on par with each other. One would be an eye soar, while the other would be safer for the riders and the people on the road, causing less traffic congestion.
